Acura 2000 MDX SUV prototype called MD-X was at first shown at the Detroit Auto Show. The production of SUV models for the US market began in 2000 at the Canadian Honda carmaker.

The car was built on a platform of Honda Odyssey and is designed for city trips with a high level of comfort. It features a rigid body, independent suspension on all four wheels, front and rear disc brakes, front and rear stabilizer bars and electronic brake force distribution EBD. Anti-lock brakes ABS (Antilock Braking System) distributes braking force to the wheels depending on the grip. Dynamic stabilization system used for driving with traction control of driving wheels VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist) and gasoline vapor catching system used for refueling.

Laconic, as well as elegant, body lines give the Acura 2000 MDX a sporty look. For the interior leather, aluminum panels and fabric upholstery are used. The center console is large, the seat of the second and third rows fold to form a flat cargo area.
